Found the problem. I use the Dutch user interface, and when I use %alfa , it shows the sign. However don't work with % beta. I changed the user interface to English(UK) and the problem is solved. I can use %alpha, %beta etc.. However, it depends ONLY on the 'user interface'. Not on the 'Locale' or other settings under 'Formats' or 'Default Languages for Documents'. Mark
