Thanks; this resolved all the 'error : xmlAddEntity: invalid redeclaration of predefined entity' I was seeing building the documentation of git. Applied to the docbook2x package in GNU Guix.

I see, thank you for explaining! About your fix, I'm excited to test it (currently targeting a build of 2.4.0-rc1, which includes it). I'm working my way through small issues that I'd like solved upstream, as you can see in the issue tracker, but I'll get there.

There's now a package in Guix at release 2.3.0 (with the problematic tire model); when this gets fixed I could update the package to use the unreleased sources (or better yet, a fresh release). I'll try to keep track of updates on this issue; thanks!

If this can be understood or better yet, resolved, I think I could use the latest trunk code for my speed-dreams Guix package submission here: https://issues.guix.gnu.org/74054 Currently in 2.3.0 I don't see this issue, but it has another serious usability issue (https://sourceforge.net/p/speed-dreams/tickets/1291/).
