I'm using Jedit 4.1Final to edit Ruby files.

JEdit reports an error when "puts(Time.new)" is
executed. Ruby 1.8 doesn't report any error
(return code is zero) when the same file is run in a
Win2K DOS window.

The Console view shows:

> ruby junk.rb
Tue Jan 20 13:46:46 Mountain Standard Time 2004
Process ruby exited with code 0

The Error view shows 1 error, 0 warnings:

46:46 Mountain Standard Time 2004

please try jedit 4.3pre9 and current Console and ruby plugin.
I am not sure whether you are reporting a bug in the Console plugin or jEdit.
