Hey dear JEdit-Developers
Considering the relatively long beta-periods of JEdit, Linux/Ubuntu people like me would enjoy being able to install the current beta-release through the synaptic-repository; it's just the easiest way for us to install, and not all Ubuntu users (e.g. newbies like me) are feeling at ease with manual installations.

That way I'd be able to install some important plugins that otherwise don't run (plugins that require 4.3preSomething), and I could seamlessly migrate between operating systems.

Thanks for the awesome program.
cheers

First of all, they are not called synaptic repositories, they are called DEBIAN apt sources.
Second, from the jEdit.org website, it says:

To install jEdit via Debian Linux apt-get (this is also for any Debian based Distros like Ubuntu), add the following line to your /etc/apt/sources.list:

    deb http://<mirror>.dl.sourceforge.net/project/jedit /

    e. g.

    deb http://switch.dl.sourceforge.net/project/jedit /

Then, just run apt-get update, followed by apt-get install jedit.

The repository is now also secured and signed. To verify the packages you have to install the public key with which the repository is signed. This can be done by invoking apt-key adv --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com --recv-keys E6A233DBE3AFBEFC

If you prefer manual installation of .deb files you can also download the Debian package manually.
