Notula
Notula is a free WYSIWYG Markdown editor for the docs as code already in your git repository. It opens the repo as a tree of documents and edits them with no syntax on screen - no hashes, no asterisks, no table pipes, not even on the line the cursor is on - then adds the review layer a code editor has no answer for: comment on a passage, reply, mention someone, suggest an edit, resolve. A mention arrives as a notification and waits in an inbox.
Threads are committed beside the document as plain files. Nothing is written into the Markdown, and a one-word edit stays a one-word diff. Tables are edited as tables and Mermaid blocks are drawn as diagrams. It drives the git already on the machine, and never rewrites history, stages the whole worktree or switches a branch.
Free, no account, no server. macOS and Windows, no Linux build yet. The source is closed and the builds are not code-signed yet, so the first launch takes one extra step.

Revise
Revise is an online word processor with a built-in AI agent that can draft, research, proofread, and edit alongside the user. It lets people work on documents with AI inside a full writing environment, asking for changes, reviewing them in-line, and keeping control over what gets accepted. Revise is designed to feel like a familiar document editor, with rich formatting, tables, images, insert tools, find, dictation, export, sharing, and real-time collaboration, while adding an AI agent directly into the writing flow. It can act as a proofreader, writing assistant, researcher, editor, and document collaborator, helping users revise text without copying content into a separate chatbot. Revise supports leading AI models in one place, including GPT, Claude, Grok, and Gemini, so users can switch between models depending on the task. Its word processor includes an LLM-powered spellcheck that works while users type and catches subtle mistakes traditional spellcheckers may miss.

WordCraft
WordCraft is a free, open-source word processor for people who write and format documents. Its ribbon interface provides editing and page-design tools for styles, tables, images, citations, footnotes, tables of contents, comments, and tracked changes, along with spelling and grammar checks and mail merge. It reads and writes DOCX, opens older DOC files, works with ODT, RTF, HTML, Markdown, LaTeX, and plain text, and exports PDF and page images. WordCraft runs as a native application on Windows, macOS, and Linux, and also has a WebAssembly edition that can be hosted on a static server. Its command-line tools, JSON control channel, and Model Context Protocol server support scripted and AI-agent document workflows. The software is in alpha, so file compatibility and feature coverage continue to develop.
