Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • Splunk is top of the line for logging. But that means paying a lot every month, and keeping a lot of data, so make sure you actually need detailed logging. If you do, Splunk has a lot of built in functions to analyze your logging data and help your business be more insightful.
  • Customizable dashboards. Can consume multiple log sources. Extensive and deep search feature. Search Queries can be converted to apps. Alert system based on log data.

Cons

  • If you only need some of the metrics and not all the logs, getting Splunk means you're wasting money and overengineering your analytics process. You can use an open source metrics system like Prometheus instead if that's what you need. It's also super easy to accidentally get false alerts on Splunk, and that will not make your oncall engineers happy.
  • Steep learning curve. Search can be slow for huge logs. Expensive.

Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • Seamless and power-packed with tools. It is very generic and can be integrated with a lot of software. It gets frequent upgrades. The price is very decent.
  • #1- Data collected from various sources gives us the best insights to analyze. #2- Salesforce connection is great. #3- Summarised Analytics gives very easy to understand and helps to take the best decision for business.
  • Tableau offers a wide suite of visualization types and is quite powerful, sometimes even bypassing the need to do basic types of calculations (like ratios, you do that within Tableau so you don't have to calculate special columns in your spreadsheet).
  • Clear interface for better visualization Simple to use - Drag & Drop Easily integrates with multiple data points Multiple graphical structures Great performance even with large amount of data Good documentation
  • - The whole concept of drag and drop interface is quite novel and makes the software really easy to pick up and deploy. - Lot's of really interesting built-in and tested features that make the reports interactive. A lot of niche excel skills were needed to do this before.

Cons

  • It has limited tools for analyzing unsupervised data. Does not provide support for neural algorithms.
  • #1- We enjoyed using this platform. No cons we ever faced.
  • If your data is complex or irregular you do need to normalize the data and make sure each column's references don't break (i.e. referring to a cell in another book sometimes might cause problems). And the interface for Tableau isn't all that intuitive either, so expect to do some reading of tutorials. Oh and Tableau can be expensive if you're using it commercially.
  • Expensive for individual license Advanced features require good amount of learning
  • - It might not be so obvious initially but the software gets really expensive once you start deploying it in large teams. This makes it beyond reach for small businesses.
