About

Five Gigabit Ethernet router with 4xPoE-out ports, SFP cage, and outdoor enclosure. The PowerBox Pro is an outdoor five-gigabit Ethernet port router with PoE output on four ports. Since the device has a weatherproof outdoor case, you can mount it on a tower, or in other outdoor locations. It also supports passive PoE input and passive or 802.3af/at PoE output. Ethernet ports 2-5 can power other PoE-capable devices with the same voltage as applied to the unit. Fewer power adapters and cables to worry about! It can power 802.3at and af mode B compatible devices if 48-57 input voltage is used. The device has an SFP port for adding optical fiber connectivity. It is affordable, small, and easy to use, but at the same time comes with a very powerful 800MHz CPU, capable of all the advanced configurations that RouterOS supports. The device has an operating system preinstalled and licensed. No separate purchase is necessary and the product is ready to use.

About

Virtual Serial Port Driver is a system utility by Electronic Team that emulates a serial port and pairs it with another virtual serial port via a virtual null modem cable. All ports created with the help of the software completely emulate serial port settings exactly like real ones, and support HandFlow control and signal lines. This makes virtual serial ports visible to an operating system, which recognizes them as “standard” hardware serial ports. All data sent to one virtual COM port immediately appears in the other one and vice versa. Once a virtual serial port pair is created, users can find the ports in Device manager. They are available for use on system startup, even before logging in to the system. Users developing their own applications can integrate a Virtual Serial Port Driver (DLL, ActiveX, or Core level usage) into their software to create and manage virtual COM ports directly from it.

Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • Easy to install and configure. Reliable performance with GPS/NMEA data sharing between multiple applications. Excellent technical support and clear communication.
  • Fast and user friendly. Very easy to install and configure the required options.
  • The product installed in a matter of seconds, and the serial ports I configured were immediately available without so much as a reboot. The connection is stable and ultra-fast. Integration with Device Manager is perfect. I'm using only a fraction of the features this product offers as a virtual nullmodem cable is all I need.
  • Clear interface, even for those with little experience! Fast and easy setup! 100% reliable, so I'm confident I won't have any other setup issues!

Cons

  • Absolutely none on installing and setup. We are remote sailing and run nav systems on a NUC computer. If this computer failed could we transfer licence to spare computer?
  • License is applicable only for once. A limit of users with single license would be more helpful.
  • The user interface could be improved in the area of accessibility for blind users, but for my very basic configuration of just a single pair of serial ports without any bells and whistles, I didn't run into anything serious.
  • I haven't found any at the moment in the features I'm using!
