Pros & Cons from Real Users Pros OpenDNS is great for families or individuals who want to block unsavory content on their home network and keep younger members of their family safe while online. Is it perfect? No but it’s better than nothing. They have two free options the “family shield”. You put in the dns addresses in your router and reboot machines and you’re done. The second free product is OpenDNS Family and this can be customized in what you want it to block or or not. You do have to install the DNS Updater on a computer that’s always on so it can send IP Address updates to your account and keep blocking active. I’ve used this for years and love it. Cons Sadly, some ISP’s won’t allow you to change your DNS servers and so it can’t be used. This isn’t OpenDNS’s fault but the fault of the ISP.	Pros & Cons from Real Users Pros Reliable and consistent DNS-based web filtering. Easy deployment and quick setup. Simple and intuitive management interface. Integrates well with existing network infrastructure. Flexible policy control for different user groups. Complete tool that is easy to install and manage. Excellent filter for malicious content and websites. We recommend it. Good cost x benefit Straight forward to implement, easy to maintain and low resource for training new employees. We renew each year because the it fulfills all of our requirements for our customer base. The ease of configuration, the categories and the reliability of the product are impressive, something very important is that it does not make devices slower. I could say that the product makes your network more efficient by eliminating junk traffic. A very good tool for managing and inhibiting network usage generating reports Blocking by categories Defining groups and policies. Cons Reporting and analytics could be more detailed. Advanced customization options are somewhat limited. User interface could be improved for deeper policy control limitation of DNS protocols in some plans premium. Sometimes support can be a little slow if we email the helpdesk, but this is generally not the case. The ease of configuration, the categories and the reliability of the product are impressive. I use for whitelist and blacklist work perfect and very simple to use.
