About
NixOS is a Linux distribution built around the Nix package manager and Nixpkgs. It lets users describe operating-system settings, packages, services, accounts, and other system components in configuration files, then build and activate the resulting system with NixOS tools. This declarative approach supports maintaining repeatable configurations across personal computers and groups of servers, while system generations allow users to select or roll back to earlier configurations. NixOS provides graphical and minimal installation images for supported 64-bit Intel/AMD and ARM systems, and can also be deployed as virtual machine images or on Amazon EC2. It is intended for Linux users, developers, and system administrators who want to define and manage workstation, server, or cloud-machine environments through versionable configuration.

About
Vagrant is a tool for building and managing virtual machine environments in a single workflow. With an easy-to-use workflow and focus on automation, Vagrant lowers development environment setup time, increases production parity, and makes the "works on my machine" excuse a relic of the past. Mirror production environments by providing the same operating system, packages, users, and configurations, all while giving users the flexibility to use their favorite editor, IDE, and browser. Declarative configuration file describes all the requirements and builds them through a consistent workflow.
