About

Telegraf is the open source server agent to help you collect metrics from your stacks, sensors and systems. Telegraf is a plugin-driven server agent for collecting and sending metrics and events from databases, systems, and IoT sensors. Telegraf is written in Go and compiles into a single binary with no external dependencies, and requires a very minimal memory footprint. Telegraf can collect metrics from a wide array of inputs and write them into a wide array of outputs. It is plugin-driven for both collection and output of data so it is easily extendable. It is written in Go, which means that it is a compiled and standalone binary that can be executed on any system with no need for external dependencies, no npm, pip, gem, or other package management tools required. With 300+ plugins already written by subject matter experts on the data in the community, it is easy to start collecting metrics from your end-points.

Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • Netdata provides real-time stats on my server as well as historical data, helping me pinpoint why my server was running slowly. Initially, I had no clue what was causing the problem, but installing Netdata took only a few minutes, and it quickly guided me toward identifying and resolving the infrastructure issues.
  • - ease of install - complete solution for our needs - easy to automate the install through ansible - no maintenance needed
  • Useful: i can tell when the scientists are running jobs with wrong parameters cuz the disks are trashed.
  • The easy way to deploy the agent, the minimal footprint it has the agent, the easiness to build dashboards with the metrics that we need.
  • Netdata shines with its real-time, in-depth monitoring capabilities, offering an unparalleled view into system performance with minimal configuration effort. Its automated service discovery and scalability are standout features, enabling easy expansion as infrastructure grows without increasing maintenance complexity. The user-friendly dashboards provide instant insights, while the customizable alerting system ensures proactive issue management. This combination of features dramatically improves operational efficiency, making Netdata an essential tool for anyone looking to streamline their monitoring processes and focus on business growth.

Cons

  • Didn't really find anything that I do not like yet.
  • Nothing. This product is perfect for our needs. We just installed and it runs
  • When used by non-technical people, it needs an introduction.
  • I only see one con, the lack of configure custom logs for monitoring.
  • One area where Netdata has room for improvement is in its documentation and integration guides, which can sometimes be less intuitive for users with varying technical backgrounds. Additionally, while Netdata offers broad compatibility, there are occasional challenges with detecting certain services or configurations, such as with specific web servers on customized setups. These minor drawbacks highlight the need for more comprehensive support materials and enhanced compatibility features to ensure a seamless experience for all users, regardless of their infrastructure complexity.
