About

NDTspec is a non-destructive testing report management software designed for engineers overseeing NDT and non-destructive evaluation reports. It facilitates the efficient creation of reports, allowing multiple welds to be recorded on each document. Users can insert pre-drawn sketches and layouts into reports or create and save custom sketches for future use. The software ensures compliance with quality assurance requirements for welding documentation across major codes and standards. An intelligent database of radiographic sources enables the calculation of present curies from initial curies, complemented by an electronic decay chart and a history log of shot times. NDTspec also provides generalized forms for recording other techniques, such as visual or eddy current testing. It offers full traceability of document creation, editing, and signing, with electronic signature capabilities.

About

PhotoCraft is a free, open-source raster image editor for photographers, digital artists, designers, and other creative users. It provides layers, masks, adjustment layers, layer styles, text, vector tools, and brushes in a native desktop application, with a WebAssembly build that can be hosted separately. Users can make non-destructive edits with adjustment layers and live-preview filters, select subjects and objects on-device, and refine masks locally. The editor opens and saves layered PSD and PSB documents, supports smart objects and smart filters, and includes color-management tools for RGB, CMYK, Lab, and grayscale documents at 8-, 16-, and 32-bit depths. PhotoCraft is available for macOS, Windows, and Linux, and is distributed as free, open-source software.

Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • It had a nice familiar UI. It looks like Photoshop. That's the goal, and they achieved that. It's a good design.
  • What I like most is that it feels familiar immediately. The layout, tools, shortcuts, layers, masks, adjustment layers, and PSD workflow are close enough to traditional professional image editors that there is almost no learning curve. The performance is another big plus. PhotoCraft is written natively in Rust and uses the GPU instead of wrapping everything in Electron, so the whole app feels much more lightweight than I expected.

Cons

  • Everything else. It's barely more useful than MS Paint, and only because it has layers. You're better off with basically any other free raster editor with an actual developer behind it.
  • The main downside is that it is still early alpha. There are still some tools, advanced typography features, generative AI capabilities, and plugin compatibility on the roadmap, so it is not a complete Photoshop replacement yet.
