About

Logseq is a joyful, open-source outliner that works on top of local plain-text Markdown and Org-mode files. Use it to write, organize and share your thoughts, keep your to-do list, and build your own digital garden. Connect your ideas and thoughts with Logseq. Your knowledge graph grows just as your brain generates and connects neurons from new knowledge and ideas. Organize your tasks and projects with built-in workflow commands like now/later/done, a/b/c priorities and repeated scheduled/deadlines. Moreover, Logseq comes with powerful query system to help you get insights and build your own workflow.

About

Just start writing—Slugline figures out the screenplay formatting as you go. You get a powerful Outline, Timeline, and color-coded notes, all without taking your hands off the keyboard. And all based on a plain-text file that’s compatible with everything. Slugline 2 is a free download, and works without watermarks or limitations until you pass page six, at which point you can upgrade to Unlimited Writing. Kick the tires at no cost — or, if all you write is short films, never pay a dime! Slugline 2 has dark mode. And a completely new design that maintains Slugline’s beloved no-buttons simplicity, while providing quick access to formatting options, the Outline Navigator, and the new Timeline, which gives you a bird’s-eye view of your structure and pacing. Like virtual index cards on a corkboard, anything you see in Slugline 2’s Outline Navigator can be drag-reordered. The associated bits of screenplay come along for the ride, creating a powerful tool for spitballing ideas in an outline.

Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • * Local offline stored notes: fast and private * Minimalist approach: suited for ADHD people * Flashcards incorporated: Excellent for students and self-learners * Excellent community: Check out the official Discord!
  • Logseq is one of the best tools I've used. I'm a meticulous notetaker who, prior to discovering the Zettlekasten method, had been focused primarily on notetaking apps and outliners. I had been a 5-year devotee of Checkvist, which I consider an outliner in its own category for its keyboard-driven (think Vim) nature. However, there were things it was missing. (And, in fairness, things it did better!) I had a stronger use case for personal knowledge management (PKM) than GTD to-do management. Logseq felt like a better fit for my PKM usage, especially with its incredible linking/backlinking superpowers. The daily journal is a great feature. It provides a single daily inbox for brain dumps where by way of tagged links everything remains findable and in its place. I am also fond of its org-mode TODOs. And finally, it's plain text, local-first orientation (https://www.inkandswitch.com/local-first/) is the cherry on top of the sundae. I like that every topical page is just a Markdown file in the file system because this permits everything to come under git version control.

Cons

  • * There are little things that need to be polished, for example, an option to hide the properties of a page.
  • Coming from Checkvist, which I consider spectacular in its design, I miss its sublime keyboard-driven experience. While Logseq is functional (and keyboard-driven) the editing/navigating experience isn't on par with Checkvist.
