About

As you probably know by now, LÖVE is a framework for making 2D games in the Lua programming language. LÖVE is totally free, and can be used in anything from friendly open-source hobby projects, to evil, closed-source commercial ones. To make a minimal game, create a folder anywhere, and open up your favorite text editor. Sublime Text is a pretty good one for all operating systems, and it has Lua support built in. Create a new file in the folder you just created, and name it main.lua. Put the following code in the file, and save it.

Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • High quality render & good performance too! I work on making 3d software, real time visualisation software, PC VR, standalone VR apps, archviz, advertisement, motion graphics, casual games, AAA games, marketing apps, animation videos & more!
  • This software is the easiest, cheapest option for anyone looking to build a game. It has assets that are necessary to build your game you can buy more stuff.
  • Good community and people to talk to who help in solving your problem. Best application to create games for developers.
  • - Unreal Engine literally enables to expand your ambitions while thinking about a game or any visual aspect for that matter. It has enough power to make even your wildest imaginations materialize on the screen.
  • Most people probably know of Unreal Engine thanks to big name games that have been built with it, and for good reason too. But did you know you can use it for physics simulations too? Pleasantly surprised my research group was able to use this to help simulate autonomous drone flight paths.

Cons

  • XR development support is not that wide!
  • I have no issues with this software. It works perfectly for what it needs to do.
  • It has a visual scripting feature which helps a lot to build a game.
  • - Unreal Engine, unlike Unity, is not at all beginner-friendly, it is for experienced pros with high ambitions. - It requires a lot of good equipment to run properly. It's not for old computers.
  • It's a big download, and the graphics requirements are high, ideally you have a computer with plenty of processing power.
