About

Multilayered endpoint security with behavior based analysis for prevention against known and unknown threats. Complete real-time visibility of all your global software inventory. Here, there, anywhere. Cloud-delivered FortiClient endpoint protection service designed for small and medium-sized business. Integrated endpoint protection platform that provides automated next-generation threat protection, visibility and control of your software and hardware inventory across the entire security fabric. Identify & remediate vulnerable or compromised hosts across your attack surface. Security events including zero-day malware, botnet detections, and vulnerabilities are reported in real-time.

About

Comprehensive threat protection with a powerful intrusion prevention system. An intrusion prevention system (IPS) is a critical component of every network’s core security capabilities. It protects against known threats and zero-day attacks including malware and underlying vulnerabilities. Deployed inline as a bump in the wire, many solutions perform deep packet inspection of traffic at wire speed, requiring high throughput and low latency. Fortinet delivers this technology via the industry-validated and recognized FortiGate platform. FortiGate security processors provide unparalleled high performance, while FortiGuard Labs informs industry-leading threat intelligence, which creates a proven success in protecting from known and zero-day threats. As a key component of the Fortinet Security Fabric, FortiGate IPS secures the entire end-to-end infrastructure without compromising performance.

Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • Easy to use Add profiles and connect with convenience Doubles as a remote connection tool Configuration can be saved Frequent updates
  • FortiClient offers very effective protection for threats and vulnerability. It also offers real-time analytics and status. From the usage point of view, it's a very intuitive platform. VPN service is also included.
  • Lightweight application. Easy configuration. Always up mode allows quick automatic re-connection in case of network issues. Available on Linux as well.

Cons

  • No mobile app ( that i am aware of ) and the UI of the desktop app is quite old.
  • It's a great endpoint security tool for any business.
  • If you have multiple connections, credentials can be saved for only one.

Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • FortiGate IPS provides granular threat insights by correlating attack patterns with user behavior, device profiles, and application data, enhancing detection accuracy. FortiGate IPS includes robust encrypted traffic analysis, enabling deep inspection of SSL/TLS data flows without significantly impacting performance. Administrators can create tailored IPS profiles and rules to focus on specific threats relevant to their industry or organization, providing highly targeted defense strategies.
  • FortiGate IPS operates seamlessly within the Fortinet ecosystem, enabling unified threat management by linking endpoint, cloud, and network defenses into a single coordinated strategy. FortiGate IPS delivers high-speed threat inspection, even in environments with large traffic volumes, ensuring low-latency protection. FortiGate IPS not only detects threats but also actively blocks malicious traffic in real-time, preventing damage before it can spread within the network.

Cons

  • Default settings may sometimes trigger false positives, requiring manual intervention to adjust thresholds and rules. Smaller organizations may find the solution less cost-effective compared to alternatives. Diagnosing and resolving issues in IPS related configurations can be time-consuming, especially without dedicated Fortinet support.
  • While customizable rules enhance security, configuring and optimizing IPS policies can be complex for non-expert users. Organizations using mixed-vendor environments may face compatibility challenges or reduced efficiency. Smaller teams or organizations with limited cybersecurity resources might struggle to use the platform to its full potential.
