About

FolderManifest is an offline Windows desktop tool for analyzing, documenting, and verifying folder contents. It scans directories recursively and generates searchable HTML manifests capturing file structure, sizes, timestamps, and checksums — useful for detecting duplicates, validating backups, verifying integrity over time, and auditing folder states. Runs entirely offline. No cloud, no accounts, no data leaves the machine. One-time lifetime purchase, unlimited scans. Free browser-based tools also available at foldermanifest.com (no signup, files never stored): duplicate file finder, file comparison, folder comparison, checksum calculator (SHA-256, MD5, CRC32), file metadata viewer, and spreadsheet duplicate finder.

Built-in file viewer to view files in hex, binary, text, or image format. Optional tree view for each panel. Flexible configuration of almost all features. Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • I used to spend hours manually dragging files around, tryI used to spend hours manually moving files around to organize my backups. FolderManifest takes care of the heavy lifting for you. It identifies all your files, manages duplicates, and brings order to the chaos. It’s one of those tools you didn’t know you needed until you use it once and realize how much time you were wasting to organize my backups. FolderManifest basically does the heavy lifting for you. It identifies everything, handles the duplicates, and makes sense of the mess. It’s one of those tools you didn't know you needed until you use it once and realize how much time you were wasting.

Cons

  • You have to be careful before you commit to changes because there’s no easy 'undo' button once the files are moved. Be cautious when making changes, as there's no easy 'undo' option once files are relocated.

Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • It has a lot of functions—too many, by now.
  • This has the best interface and routine functionality of all the dual-pane browsers. After years as a sysadmin, there is still nothing I can't do with FreeCommander.

Cons

  • In the latest version, the available settings have become so bloated that it is impossible to master them. Reactions to a mouse click—or even just a mouse movement—are no longer predictable. If I can configure what happens when I click on empty space, the icon, the filename, the file extension, or anything else, and get a different result each time—well, that might be fine for gamers. But I didn't realize this was a video game.
  • If I had a choice, I'd go for an open-source cross-platform tool.
