About

Today, SmugMug and Flickr help photographers of all kinds protect, share, and sell their photos. From casual smartphone shutterbugs to professional portrait artists, we provide the essential tools that photographers need to grow their skillset, their following, and their profits. We want to help people make their photos available to the people who matter to them. Maybe they want to keep a blog of moments captured on their cameraphone, or maybe they want to show off their best pictures or video to the whole world in a bid for web celebrity. Or maybe they want to securely and privately share photos of their kids with their family across the country. Flickr makes all these things possible and more! To do this, we want to get photos and video into and out of the system in as many ways as we can: from the web, from mobile devices, from the users' home computers and from whatever software they are using to manage their content.

About

RealTime.Photos is a live event photo-sharing platform built for photographers and event professionals who want to deliver more than just a gallery link sent days after the event. The way event photography works today hasn't changed in years: the photographer shoots, spends days editing, and sends a link to a gallery that arrives long after the moment has passed. By then, the energy is gone and social sharing is nearly zero. RealTime.Photos fixes that gap. Photographers push curated selects to a live gallery as the event unfolds — during breaks, between sessions, or whenever it fits their workflow. Guests access the gallery instantly by scanning a QR code at the venue. No app download. No account. No friction. And with built-in face recognition, every guest can take a quick selfie and instantly filter to every photo they appear in, out of hundreds. RealTime.Photos is priced per event, no subscription. Plans start at €49 for small events and scale up to €399 for large events.

Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • Wide international membership; significant (but declining) proportion of photographers vs. just viewers; organisation of photos into subject-interest groups, set up and controlled by members; inclusive of NSFW photos; availability of stats on viewing of your photos (but recently become unreliable); still some community spirit; generally helpful and responsive admins.

Cons

  • Slow and fluctuating loading of pages, especially "notifications"; shift towards it becoming a photo storage rather than exhibition / discussion site; poor layouts requiring scrolling through almost full-size images rather than quickly-loading thumbnail pages; bizarre decision to charge contributing photographers rather than "consumer" viewing members with no on-site reward for successful / popular images; resulting from this, a growing commercialisation and use by professional glamour / porn photographers to market their work elsewhere rather than by amateur enthusiasts who would be delighted with small rewards by the site to recognise their work. (I understand this shift in business model is based on advertising / marketing but it is a big negative from the site experience point of view)
