About

Fedora Workstation is a reliable, powerful, and easy-to-use operating system for desktop and laptop computers. It is functional for a wide range of developers, from hobbyists and students to professionals in business environments. Focus on your code with the GNOME 3 desktop environment. GNOME is developed with the needs of developers in mind and is free from unnecessary distractions, so you can focus on what really matters. Avoid the hassle of trying to find or compile the tools you need. With Fedora's comprehensive collection of open source languages, tools, and utilities, it's just a click or command away. There are even hosting projects and repositories like COPR to share your code and make builds available to the entire community.

About

Mainstream OS is an Arch-based Linux desktop distribution built around the Hyprland Wayland compositor and a configurable Quickshell desktop. It provides a graphical installer and settings app for displays, window layouts, keyboard shortcuts, themes, updates, app management, and system repair. Users can customize the desktop with wallpaper-driven colors, save and share themes, manage native packages and Flatpak apps, and switch to a Steam-based Gaming or Console Mode. The distribution includes update snapshots and boot-menu rollback, plus options for dual boot and full-disk encryption during installation. It is intended for people seeking a customizable Linux desktop with graphical setup and administration, from first-time Linux users to experienced users looking for an Arch-based desktop.

Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • - Customization of Fedora - Supports most of the DEs you can think of (KDE, Cinnamon, MATE, Xfce, etc.)

Cons

  • Default mirrors are slow. In Brazil, Fedora defaults for the C3SL servers, which for me are quite slow, so I have to add the Red Hat servers in the U.S.
