Stream movies and TV shows to your Android TV, Apple TV, or portable devices. Organize libraries and configure permissions to share videos with family members.

About

Back up folders, system settings, and software packages from your Synology NAS to a wide range of destinations, while saving space with compression and deduplication. Back up your NAS data to a local shared folder, external devices, another Synology NAS, rsync servers, and public cloud services like Google Drive, S3-compatible storage, and Synology's C2 Storage for Individuals and C2 Storage for Businesses. Keep your backup plans as simple as possible with powerful customization features in Hyper Backup. Automatically run backups at convenient times to make sure data is optimally protected. Retain as many backup versions as you need, while drastically reducing storage use with block-level incremental backup. Configure custom backup rotation policies to delete older backups automatically. Minimize storage consumption and backup times by removing duplicate copies of data. Track monthly or annual storage usage, and get alerted when the system detects excessive usage.

Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • -popular platform for NAS -very stable, well support, great community -cost-effective -flexible through growing number of apps (and ability to access linux core) -allows growth into serious server self-hosting
  • Reliability is exceptional. Easy to use custom-GUI. Plethora of updates. New Cloud Backup solution called C2 that is native to the appliance and sold by Synology. Best 1TB cost in the business. Device is compact and easy to setup/install. Multiple USB, Ethernet and "server" ports available to end-users.

Cons

  • -cost rises quickly with higher performance/storage demand -slow grow (DSM versions take a long time) -limited expansion capabilities on beginner level models -can get expansive (if you need to grow into larger models with higher performance, storage and memory needs)
  • Very few. It's going to sound ridiculous, but I'd prefer the ability to choose warning beeps. It sounds just like a UPS and as a technician, I know how to ignore those. I'd rather have a unique tone to identify the device. The screwless hardware is actually very strange to attach to the device. It uses a pin system for the screw holes instead of a blade like on most server chassis'
