About

Beyond the most trivial cases, there is little value in blindly applying formulas to data. Real world data analysis is a multi-step process, and Data Desk speeds up this process by allowing you to select suspicious-looking outlying cases in one visual, and keeping your point selected as you change visualizations. Spot outliers and trends at a glance. By allowing users to quickly re-express data in different ways, Data Desk encourages experimentation and composition to create more compelling models. Select and categorize data across different visualizations in real-time. Make plots and perform sophisticated analyses with Data Desk’s graphical interface, then just click to export the R or Python code that reproduces what you’ve done. Data Desk cleans your data to R’s standards (no choking on stray characters). Comments you make in your Data Desk windows appear as comments in your code.

About

DeskProto is a 3D CAM program for 3-axis, 4-axis and 5-axis CNC milling machines. It can import 2D vector files (DXF, SVG, EPS, AI), 3D geometry files (STL, DXF) and bitmap files (any digital image), calculate CNC toolpaths for that design, simulate the result, and finally export a toolpath file for the machine that you selected - a long list of supported machines is present. DeskProto is available in our different editions: Free, Entry, Expert and Multi-Axis. The last three need a paid license, hobbyist users can buy a low-cost hobby license .

Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • all the features are there, some what easy to learn, much shorter learning curve than others, Wizards make it easy to set up a project. Low cost and no subscription needed.
  • Simple to use - the wizards really take the guesswork out of things for beginners. Scaleable - you can be as much in control of the process as you wish for, so it grows well with you as you grow in confidence

Cons

  • UI is a bit dated. Really no cons once you get used to the layout
  • I am unhappy that they have only just released the V-Carve solution. I have not yet upgraded to the Version 8 that incorporates this, as I have got used to making do with FEngrave. This would have been a nice to have before trying to go the hard route. I understand that tool paths can be broken, it would be nice (but potentially impossible to predict) to know this before embarking on a visualisation that just sits doing nothing for hours. Note I am still on V7, so this may be addressed in V8
