About

Lexia® PowerUp Literacy® accelerates literacy gains for students in grades 6–12 who are at risk of not meeting College- and Career-Ready Standards. Proven to be up to five times as effective as the average middle school reading intervention, PowerUp enables students to make multiple years of growth in a single academic year. Students in grades 6–12 are expected to have already made the leap from learning to read to reading to learn. However, for decades, assessments such as the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) have shown that there is a large opportunity gap, with only about a third of eighth-grade students reading at or above a proficient level. With the majority of secondary curriculum presented through reading, many students are at risk of not reaching their full academic potential. PowerUp can help, with over 30 years' experience delivering effective Structured Literacy programs, Lexia’s literacy experts designed PowerUp to maximize student learning.

Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • Easy to use although not every functionality works without hassle. And if you think it is free to use...

Cons

  • I don't like the way they "introduce" pricing plans. The software was free to use and you may expect a free plan to be continued but they don't. But the nasty thing is: They are not transparent about their pricing / functionality plans. I think it's rather strange that they communicate by mail 12 days ago that they're changing the pricing plans but there is not any information available about this on their website. They say, by the moment Crmble is free. That may be true but within a couple of months it is not (january 1st, 2022). So why still communicating by email and on the site that it is free. Looks like a false representation to me. They now say in an email that you start with a "Humble Crmble Plan" in which you will pay whatever you want between 0,99 € and 14,99 € user/month. Ex taxes, and in the first year all Crmble functionalities will be able even if you select to pay 0,99 €. So after one year "Humble Crmble Plan" there will be more of these surprises for users and users are going to pay more for specific functionality. Again this is not very transparent. Why can't they tell customers exactly what the price-plans will be (after a year of getting used to all functionality) and what functions will cost how much. I really don't like the way Crmble is doing this. Sucking customers in their product for free and if they begin to 'depend' on the software, they introduce a fee and an unclear price/functionality-plan. On their website they proudly state the amount of customers using Crmble. Over 60K. And 60.071 times 0,99 € per month is as far as I know € 59.470,29 per month and € 713.643,48 per year. Good for them. But count me out. Crmble is not that great or indispensable. It also feels a bit ungrateful somehow. As an early adopter and with all the feedback and ideas I contributed in the early stage of their development. But especially that they are not transparent about the prices and functionality, I dislike that a lot. This is not the way I am used to doing business. The monsters looked so nice but it turned out to be a real monster.

Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • NOTHING.
  • Nothing.
  • The videos were decent. They explained what the topic was, and some videos were surprisingly well made. There is visible room for improvement but that is the least of my concern.

Cons

  • Everything. Glitchy, able to be compared to IXL, a yapper of a static robot voice, 20 questions for 1 FRICKING UNIT, no fun, boring, lame, takes really long, tells you things you already know, too easy, MINECRAFT IS BETTER
  • The questions. It repeats the skill videos often.
  • Aesthetic-wise: Lexia's websites layout looks straight out of 2012. Not to mention the art style for units look horrible, I wish they could do something cute with animals or at least something more decent-looking if they are going for the realistic art style. The theme colors are blue, green, yellow, and orange which does not sit right with me, the palette does not match at all and is one of the least aesthetically pleasing programs I have ever seen. Technical-wise: The questions are impossible if you do not have access to headphones. I have to guess most of the time because the videos do not provide instructions, just the meaning of the topic. In addition to this, you have to have an abundant level of patience to complete any single unit. (If you are a user without headphones, this will happen:) After clicking an answer, you have to wait an average of 10 seconds in aggravating silence before you can get to the next question. During this time, it explains the instructions only audibly for the next question, so sometimes it takes longer than 10 seconds. I entreat Lexia to place instructions at the top of the question, instead of an audible disarray that makes users ferociously click their keyboards. Furthermore, many questions are set up ambiguously and do not explain what you got wrong (unless again, you have headphones.) I have found the unit restarts sometimes if I answer one or two questions incorrectly, but other times I just lose my answer streak. Not to mention that you loose your progress if you forget to log out, instead of just closing the tab.The program is a discombobulating experience.
