About

Codeberg is a collaboration platform and git hosting for free and open source software, content and projects. Independent and powered by your donations and contributions - consider joining the non-profit association Codeberg e. V. to further support our mission and receive your vote! All services run on servers under our control, no dependencies on external services and no third party cookies, no tracking. While all successful software tools that enabled this development were contributed by the Free and Open Source Software community, commercial for-profit platforms dominate the hosting of the results of our collaborative work. This has led to the paradox that literally millions of volunteers create, collect, and maintain invaluable knowledge, documentation, and software, to feed closed platforms driven by commercial interests, whose program is neither visible nor controllable from outside.

About

Origin by Cursor is a new Git platform designed for the agentic era of software development. Cursor describes Origin as a Git forge built for a moment when code is moving faster than existing infrastructure was built to handle. The product was announced at Cursor’s Compile 2026 keynote as one of Cursor’s upcoming releases, alongside Cursor Mobile and a new model. Origin is currently presented with a waitlist for teams that want access when the platform is ready. It fits into Cursor’s broader product direction around agents, cloud agents, code review, CLI workflows, Composer, teams, and enterprise development. Built for developers and engineering organizations preparing for AI-generated code at scale, Origin by Cursor aims to provide source-control infrastructure designed around agentic software workflows.

Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • * Powered by a non-profit, so no weird enterprise-license locked features, no weird misuses like GitHub copilot, etc. Just less potential for shady things going on. * Very simple and clean UI, especially compared to GitLab. * Nice community. * Free if your project is open-source, plenty opportunity to meet like-minded open-source developers.

Cons

  • * Limited to open-source, although this is also a positive point if you're looking for like-minded people. * Continuous Integration is just available as closed beta, no kubernetes or other advanced integrations, so it's a bit basic. * Less proven and financially backed than the big players, so I suppose bigger risk that one day it goes under. * Less great exploration and social features than GitHub, although they seem to be working on improving that (in Gitea, the software Codeberg uses).
