About

Codayak is a free Windows desktop AI coding workbench for software developers and teams, especially those using .NET and Visual Studio. It analyzes repositories and dependencies, helps turn work items into user stories and acceptance criteria, and writes or patches code. It builds projects, runs unit tests, executes SQL against SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL/MariaDB, SQLite, and Oracle, tests browser and Windows desktop interfaces, and reviews pull requests in GitHub and Azure DevOps. Its Trust Engine checks builds, tests, security, style, and specification compliance, then reports a trust band with supporting evidence. Backups and diffs let developers inspect and roll back changes. Codayak is free for personal and commercial use, with no subscription or metering. It uses your API keys for supported language-model providers or locally hosted models; you pay providers for API usage.

Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • Clean and to the point interface. Free & Open source. Lots of extensions / plugins. Universal - Allows connecting to most of the popular db's via plugins. Has multiple Db management utilities. Multi platform - Available on mac, windows, linux.
  • Simple to use. Does not attempt to maximize unnecessary (and non functional) features. Responsive developers. Reverse engineer existing DBs from connections or scripts. And can generate a completely db independent ERD. The price rocks. The documentation generator is by far the best I've seen.

Cons

  • For a free solution and a universal one - I can't find any cons.
  • It is simple and sometimes manual alterations of DDL is needed (e.g., sharding, if present). I'm not (yet) allowed to use it at my current place of employment.
