Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • I love that everything is in one place. Calendars, zoom integration, editing/updating documents easily, contacts, and billing are all in one place. I find its organization skills are excellent for both smaller and larger firms.
  • Among many features that Clio can offer us we highlight the following: The real time tracking is excellent and effective, it allows us a simultaneous and accurate automation with Microsoft Word for job delivery improvement, the calendar management is amazing as it has no glitches and allows us to add to each report a personalized electronic signature.
  • First of all, Clio is quite practical due to its visual customization, and its automation is very optimized in terms of actions. Apart from integrating a good chat system, it allows the elaboration of a text by simply clicking on generate document and start writing.
  • Irrelevant of how many dynamics can be applied to the same case file, it will remain free of formatting errors and will not slow down the system, which would normally happen with any other legal case management system, since most do not offer good integrations as Clio does. Our recommendation about Clio is to learn to exploit the tools it offers not only in case management terminology, but also as a software operator of automated messages, notification-based reminders, and more. Its technology is recommended for any work department.
  • Clio addresses one of the work environments where there are currently fewer services to work with: purely legal case operations. With Clio it is possible to provide clients with a stable and direct advocacy service, where they can feel confident with the development of their cases.

Cons

  • Updating contacts or adding a related contact to a matter can be quite difficult at times. I’ve found that rather than redirecting you back to the matter you just added a contact to, it will direct you to the contact. Additionally, sometimes it takes a couple minutes for the search options to actually update. If I’ve added a new matter into Clio, it will take around 5 refreshes before it actually shows up in the search bar.
  • As a main flaw we realized that we can not deliver directly from Clio a PDF file, but you have to download in another format and convert it, which makes us lose time sometimes; also, the notes tend to be somewhat disorganized.
  • Although its usability is quite simple, it has new tools for many individuals and the training through instructional videos that it offers are generally basic and difficult to understand. Similarly, if you need technical support from their assistants you will not get anything, they offer lousy service.
  • Clio unfortunately does not operate with digital tools for instant communication, so these services must be used in parallel if you want to keep clients updated on case progress and projections (only in a situation where live messaging or phone calls are warranted).
  • Clio is great, and allows us to deliver our case reports always within the estimated time frame. No negative points were found during the experience of using Clio, nor were there any inconveniences while working, so we proceed to make the review completely positive.

Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • I have been using uLaw since I started my sole practice in Canadian immigration law about 7 years ago. A colleague was using it at the time and suggested I try it out. I am extremely happy with uLaw. To be clear, I hate accounting, but I knew that my practice is small enough where I could handle everything if I had the right tools. uLaw has proven to be the right tool for my accounting and bookkeeping needs. I keep it simple and uLaw allows me to do that without being overwhelmed by over choice or a confusing interface. I've had to contact customer service a number of times to figure out what reports are needed for taxes, HST return reviews, and law society compliance audits. Each time I've contacted customer service they have been very responsive and extremely helpful. They understand the product deeply and they understand my question, even when I'm not always sure exactly what I'm asking for.
  • Like the lost seminars that uLaw provided and training us. learning from the roommate also form the instructor.
  • The service is web based, highly customizable, allows for BI and is great for book keeping as well as CRM functions, and produces very professional-looking documents. However, the best feature is the dedicated after-sales support -- from what I'm told it far surpasses other similar solution providers. For that reason alone, I wouldn't switch from uLaw.
  • The follow-up by staff when you do not know how to do something in ULaw or reverse something, is very timely. The product itself is very comprehensive. I like that the product is Canadian and fairly affordable, especially given the discount given in your first year as a user and in comparison to U.S. software I considered. The compliance tab (with the LSO) is a great resource.
  • uLawPractice is a legal software and bookkeeping in one. Additionally, the technical support team is very knowledgeable about the program and extremely helpful. The response time is only within a few hours. uLawPractice assists law firms with audit ready checklists and reports. Lots of help videos, weekly webinars and live technical support are available to help with learning the software.

Cons

  • Sometimes information populates in template forms a little oddly and sometimes invoices/receipts are a bit slow to generate/download.
  • Like the most topic that you guy provided. all of topic are valuable.
  • There are no cons to using uLaw. I would recommend uLaw to anyone running their own practice.
  • I find that often the Ulaw Answers do not provide an answer for something I am trying to do. The sound on the videos is low. I like that they are to-the-point and quick, but I think more need to be added, even though there are already hundreds to filter through. The ULaw answers are useful sometimes, but I do not use the Guide. It should not even be called one I think, as the few times I have gone in to it forgetting that it is not a guide in the sense that I think of as a guide - terms with a table of contents. I really missed not having access to a resource like that when I was a beginner, although I had ULaw answers and Gayathri from ULaw Support, Bless her. I found flow charts or menu paths would have been helpful. Ex. what do you do first in ULaw when you have a new client, where do you go next... Sometimes it appears as if there are different ways to do the same thing , but you end up choosing the wrong path. The incorrect spelling throughout ULaw annoys me a little as a former English teacher and do not find it leaves a professional image for the company.
  • Not designed for large law firms. The software may seem difficult to navigate at first.
