About

CircuitMaker is not just a free EDA software tool from Altium, it’s also a community of creative people and design content, working together to invent circuits and electronics products for a better future. For turning great ideas into real products, you need design tools that won’t limit your imagination or hold you back. CircuitMaker has all the power you need to design high quality schematics and Printed Circuit Boards, with no artificial limits on layer counts or board area. Best of all it’s free. The CircuitMaker community is where you will find great reference designs, and be able to promote and rate other projects in the community. You can even set up teams for collaborative design efforts. We think you deserve better design tools, made specifically for you, to turn great ideas into reality. That’s why we’ve created CircuitMaker. Besides being a collaborative community for electronic design content, CircuitMaker is Schematic & PCB design software.

About

Synopsys OptoCompiler is the industry's first unified electronic and photonic design platform, combining mature and dedicated photonic technology with Synopsys' industry-proven electronic design tools to enable engineers to produce and verify complex photonic integrated circuit designs quickly and accurately. By providing schematic-driven layout and advanced photonic layout synthesis in a single platform, OptoCompiler bridges the gap between photonic experts and integrated circuit designers to make photonic design accessible, fast, and flexible. OptoCompiler supports electronic-photonic co-design to ensure scalable design processes and offers comprehensive features for hierarchical design, enabling multiple designers to work closely together to shorten product development cycle times. The platform includes dedicated native photonic simulators, in conjunction with industry-standard electrical simulators, for accurate simulation results that account for statistical variations.

Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • Looks like a nice program from what I could see of it. I would give it a much better rating if it worked in a virtual machine.
  • Well as a first time use i started to use EasyEDA which didn't work for me at all. Hard to use program for a user seeing the program the first time. Also tried other options and programs like Altium Designer and i didn't make it work so this program CircuitMaker as a first time user has all the pros EasyEDA to use free and gets the job done. As i went to the manufacturer export files worked so no problems there.

Cons

  • When I try to make a new schematic or PCB drawing I always get this error: HRESULT: [0x887A0004], Module: [SharpDX.DXGI], ApiCode: [DXGI_ERROR_UNSUPPORTED/Unsupported], Message: Unknown at 30945C72. AdvSch.dll, Base Address: 2F6A0000.
  • The only thing i have to add here is the parts database is a bit low for now.
