About

A souped-up ultra-customizable alternative to the boring stock messaging app. Chomp comes with a bunch of great features, notably a passcode lock, privacy options, scheduled SMS sender (reminders, birthday wishes), stop a text while sending, pin favs to top, backup, blocklisting / SMS blocker, signatures, text snippets, quick reply popup (even on lock screen), multi-select picture gallery, dual sim, better MMS and group messaging and much more. Plus unlimited customization options when receiving messages: change notification LED colors, ringtones, and vibrate patterns. In Chomp you can also customize the screen color, font style, text size and background wallpaper.

About

Session is an end-to-end encrypted messenger that minimizes sensitive metadata, designed and built for people who want absolute privacy and freedom from any form of surveillance. Session accounts are completely anonymous. No phone number or email required. Session doesn’t collect data, so there’s nothing to leak. Send messages through our onion routing network and leave no trace. Session’s code has nothing to hide. Anyone can view, audit, and contribute. With no central point of failure, it’s harder to shut Session down. Talk to your friends or talk to the world. You decide. Closed groups let you talk to up to 20 friends at once, with the same encrypted protection as one-on-one chats. Got a bigger crowd? Use an open group to connect with as many people as you want. Sometimes, a text just isn’t enough. Voice messages let you send something a little more personal, so nothing gets lost in translation.

Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • Have appreciated the app since installing in preference to the default Android sms widget. Primary motivation is to be able to selectively delete multiple old messages in a stream, as a batch, in order to preserve the chat as an archive while removing extraneous exchanges.
  • Absolutely love Chomp now that I have back engineered it..... I just didn't need a lot of the bells and whistles that came with the latest pro and to the 6.49 dollars ..... so I went ahead coming from hand sent, to Chomp, which they were both so very similar by design. I installed the 8. 11 I noticed all the trackers in the background and ads started appearing. Although it had said that 8.11 was ad free. And once I installed adguard. I didn't get any more ads and no more trackers, I just love it, it is so light on memory it hardly uses any at all now that the trackers and the ads are not appearing and it is totally ad free.
  • Except for the "con" noted below, it provides all the features I want in a texting app. It handles SMS and MMS very well and has simple methods for adding attachments.
  • Easily customizable. Straight forward. Customer support gets back to you within 24 hrs. Very helpful no complaints.

Cons

  • Program failed basic error detection and correction ; automated release 9.24 dated 30 June 2025 failed to SEND ALL MESSAGES with no detection or report to user. Took me weeks to understand that it was not an intermittent error condition caused by Chomp and not my phone or carrier (Verizon) Support glibly characterized my BUG REPORT as "feedback."
  • Install the ad guard it will be super light on memory and no ads and no trackers in the background you'll love it. 😁😁❤❤
  • Whenever I have an appointment and the accountant, doctor, etc., sends a text requesting I confirm the appointment, I try using Chomp to respond. Usually, the request is for a letter or number. I can't get Chomp to respond. To send a response to the requester, I open a different text messaging app, make it the default and then submit my response. Chomp needs to be updated to include that feature.
  • I don't see that there are any. It's intuitive as far as being able to customize it.

Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • I found session 2 years ago when it was just put out and was in love, no sign up or logs, top notch encryption and u can dump and create new accounts as quick and easy as pushing a button. Session is the future.
  • The range of features and the actual current demonstrated capabilities and omissions are grand. Open source is critically important and their protocol is based upon tried and true protocols from safe developers. It's a shame you can't trust their situation as an entity - as all of this can become irrelevant immediately in the blink of an eye under a number of plausible - likely, even - scenarios. This weakness must be addressed.
  • Free and open source. End-to-end encrypted messenger. Decentralized. Doesn't require phone number or email. No meta data tracking.
  • Decentralized. E2e encrypted. No email or number required. P2p v.soon. Faster than tor. Easy interface.

Cons

  • It was buggy, but they were working on it. I also noticed something, called sentinel? A file that someone was trying to send me, in the past I've ran into it and believe it's a form of spyware, probably just the person I was chatting with, but idk...
  • You won't find privacy from apps developed in Australia or by Australians. Period. This is very suspicious and what is secure today may be very quickly made insecure and revelatory retrospectively in one quick patch. Do not trust any company at the mercy of Australian lawmakers. Because even they have no say over the matter if push comes to shove.
  • Not really a con of the app but Session is not really popular.
  • Design is not so cool as compare to signal or others.
