About

Cheqbook is fast and easy to pick up for business owners while having the pro features that accountants and bookkeepers need. We can save business owners two weeks a year through our patent-pending import and smart categorization. We designed Cheqbook to be as simple and easy to use as we could, but like all accounting software you do have a bit of work to do when you first set it up. Before you start you should connect to the online bank and credits cards that you’re going to sync. Especially if you haven’t connected in awhile to make sure you still have access. Add a company. For personal accounts go ahead and name it after yourself, like “John & Mary Smith”. We typically refer to a set of books as a company but it can just as easily be your personal finances. Sync your first bank account by selecting the bank and securely entering your login name and password for that financial institution. You may be prompted for security questions as Cheqbook establishes a connection.

About

Fondo is an all‑in‑one accounting platform built specifically for startups that automates bookkeeping, tax filing, and tax credit claims so founders can focus on building rather than balancing books. After a simple one‑time onboarding, Fondo connects to your existing tools, bank accounts, payroll, cap‑table software, and accounting system or sets one up for you, and provides a centralized dashboard displaying financial health, cash and runway insights, and the status of tax returns. It generates core financial statements (profit & loss, balance sheet, cash flow) and runway metrics, and supports the preparation and filing of Delaware franchise tax, federal, and state corporate income taxes via its annual “TaxPass” subscription (including forms such as 5471, 5472, and FBAR for international startups). It also handles tax credit filings for which users may be eligible (startups can receive up to $500,000 annually.

Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • Cheqbook is not overly complicated, but very powerful when it comes to categorizing transactions. It uses your own history and "community" history to pre-categorize transactions to speed up the process. Our business does alot of "Split" transactions and Cheqbook excels at splits. We've used Quickbook desktop and web based software, Wave accounting, Mint and Tiller (as an avid google sheets user). Quickbooks was "too much" for our small business and having to buy their software every 2 years basically turned it into a subscription model software. You can also import transactions from a csv file into different accounts, one of my biggest beefs with other platforms was the inability to import.

Cons

  • While the reporting system is pretty robust, my biggest issue is the inability to do "Comparisons" to prior periods, you have to export and do your own comparisons. I'd also like to also see a budgeting module added.
