About

Cambric is a desktop application for authors and small presses who write and produce text-led books. It combines a chapter-based manuscript editor and binder for parts, chapters, front matter, and back matter with a live preview of composed print pages. Users can start a project or import a DOCX manuscript, apply book-interior templates, set trim and layout options, and review typography, margins, chapter openings, page flow, and other elements before export. From the same local project, Cambric generates print-interior PDFs and reflowable EPUB 3 files, with editable DOCX handoffs also described. It is designed for novels, memoirs, narrative nonfiction, poetry, and similar chapter-based books, and supports desktop builds for 64-bit Windows and macOS. Authors retain their project files locally and upload exported files to their chosen publishing services; Cambric does not itself distribute books.

Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • I love most of Chapterly. This is my first time using it. There are tons of options. It looks very appealing at first. But not as easy once you try to move between content.
  • So I was a Dabble user for 2 years. What switched me was how Chapterly not only had the features that Dabble did, but more. The best difference is Chapterly formats for you in real time. Not only can you edit those changes after you publish, but I am happy with the format it gives and never have had to change anything. Very robust, adds everything in story plotting and creating scenes as well as story boarding. Very excited and the price point is cheaper then Dabble with more features. The key differentiation is the formatting and a lower price point. You're going to charge me for less and offer more.

Cons

  • it's hard to move between pages. It gets stuck.it isn't my computer because I logged in on my laptop. I have agents & publishers waiting so I have no time to waste I'll be looking for another alternative besides Chapterly, unfortunately. Also, there's not a phone number for customer service.
  • Dabble has a thesaurus but is using the thesaurus worth double the price to look up words inside the app and not online. No. Small con in the grand scheme of things.
