About

Boot.dev is an online learning platform focused on teaching backend development through a hands-on, code-centric approach. The platform emphasizes writing extensive code to avoid "tutorial hell" and promotes "dopamine-driven development" to keep learners motivated. Students build portfolio projects to demonstrate their skills and delve into foundational concepts, all while learning flexibly online. The curriculum covers in-demand backend technologies such as Python, SQL, and Go, with courses taught by experienced engineers from companies like Netflix and SourceGraph. Boot.dev offers a structured path to a backend career, typically taking part-time learners around 12 months to complete. The platform also provides a supportive online community, allowing students to connect with peers and instructors. Notably, Boot.dev offers a 30-day refund policy to ensure student satisfaction.

About

Keep learning in the moments that matter. Courses for every step of your career. Instructors with real-world experience. A modern learning experience that employees will use, love, and apply. Keeping top talent engaged is key to ensuring they don’t leave and go to a competitor. The #1 reason employees leave companies is lack of professional development. How can LinkedIn Learning help you increase employee engagement? With engaging content that is up-to-date, professionally-produced, and taught by real-world experts. Plus, we'll help you reach more employees by distributing relevant courses on a platform that millions of professionals already use everyday. Employees expect learning technology to be social, self-directed, and easy to use. This is especially true of Millennial and Gen Z professionals, who will soon make up the majority of today’s workforce. LinkedIn Learning meets the needs of the modern learner with personalized, data-driven course recommendations.

Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • I like the way that the learning paths are structured, providing guidance to the self learning process.
  • Short courses are available for an overview of the concept. Various courses are available to acquire new skills. The courses are updated regularly.
  • A part of the LinkedIn ecosystem. Easy to complete courses. Soft skills for management and other non technical fields. Encouraged by companies.
  • Huge amount of content - technical as well as soft skills Works from within the LinkedIn platform Provides certifications on course completion Self paced learning Practice from within the site - Code editor
  • (+) Lots of content is available on Linkedin learning. (+) Quality of learning and training. (+) Certification on completion. (+) Easy to use and a great platform. (+) One can ask questions and get real-time solutions.

Cons

  • Some content is dated and should be updated to account for recent trends in their fields.
  • Subtitles are not available in a different language. Sometimes the course is very basic and does not meet requirements.
  • I couldn't find many advanced courses for professionals. Expensive for personal use.
  • Currently certifications are provided by LinkedIn itself, It should include certifications provided by other established organisations like Oracle, Cisco, Microsoft, Amazon as well to encourage a better engagement.
  • (-) Too much content on the same topics can be a bit hard to choose which is best for you. (-) The platform gets stuck sometimes. (-) There is no option to get live class/session with instructors (-) The pricing model can be changed to cost per course instead of a monthly subscription.
