Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • By supporting Text Factories, the platform enables customers to build text processing workflows that are automated. This function streamlines complicated text conversions and automates repeated activities to increase efficiency.
  • When it comes to advanced features for search, text modification and automation, BBEdit delivers unparalleled performance and itโ€™s hard to find a rival on the Mac. It handles enormous GB size documents at ease and has powerful shortcuts and many options for customization.

Cons

  • Even though BBEdit is user-friendly, new users may need to invest some time in learning how to utilize all of its complex capabilities. On the other hand, consumers may gradually explore more complex features, and the fundamentals are intuitive.
  • It can be said that it lacks features that would make it a proper integrated development environment, which is why itโ€™s not my editor of choice any longer. It also takes time for the team to add new features to the app. Some may find the interface lacking buttons and visual cues.

Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • It's free and open-source, extremely fast start-up times, uses very little memory, and surprisingly customizable (I barely did any myself though; I wanted to keep it light). I find it useful for swiftly taking notes at a moment's notice, but I have also used it to quickly peek through config files, source code, or even certain text documents--they all just work. As a user who swaps between Windows and Linux, it being cross-platform is such a huge plus for me, and is the leading reason why I use it over Notepad++. As much as I like tinkering with software and hardware alike, I also don't want to find out that certain features I use regularly on one OS's notepad don't exist on other OS's notepads, even some third-party ones. It's just some peace of mind.

Cons

  • It lags for ~1 sec when it wraps text for the first time since the app was opened. Even after using this app for over a year, I still find the logo hard to identify as a text editor of any kind. I still have to tell people who borrow my laptop that my notepad app is this, even when it's pinned to the taskbar and start menu.
