About

Azure Data Studio is a cross-platform database tool for data professionals who use on-premises and cloud data platforms on Windows, macOS, and Linux. Azure Data Studio offers a modern editor experience with IntelliSense, code snippets, source control integration, and an integrated terminal. It's engineered with the data platform user in mind, with the built-in charting of query result sets and customizable dashboards. Use Azure Data Studio to query, design, and manage your databases and data warehouses wherever they are, on your local computer or in the cloud. We recommend the user installer, which simplifies installations and updates and doesn't require Administrator privileges.

About

Eppo helps companies run useful, reliable experiments by automating analysis, diagnostics, and investigations, all on top of your data warehouse. See each experiment's impacted metrics, status, confidence intervals, and other metadata in a central place that your whole team can track. You can look at traffic splits, double check the set up, add a hypothesis, and so much more. In Eppo, you configure experiment data via SQL snippets, reinforcing a single source of truth for metrics. We do all data computations in your warehouse, so no raw events ever leave your system. Like metrics and dimensions, experiment assignments in Eppo are as simple as SQL snippets pulling from your data warehouse. Whether you're using LaunchDarkly or a home grown tool, as long as it's in your warehouse, Eppo can use it. Eppo generates clean, easy to read reports that team members without degrees in statistics can understand and use.

Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • Auto Save - Reliable in launching all of the ADS Windows/Instances and Sessions/Query Tabs when ADS crashes or closes unexpectedly (although, ADS is very stable and I have not had any issues with crashes or unexpected close) CONNECTIONS (side panel) - Lists all Connections and easily accessible with a single Mouse Click NOTEBOOKS (side panel) - Run and Retain Queries and Results in an easy-to-read Notebook perfect for change comparisons DATABASE PROJECTS (side panel) - Create new or manage existing Projects EXPLORER (side panel) - View and Manage OPEN EDITORS, OPEN FOLDERS, OUTLINE, TIMELINE regardless if these objects are Saved or Unsaved SEARCH (side panel) - Easily Search and Replace text in Databases, Tables, Queries, Results, JavaScript, Powershell, Commands, etc... SOURCE CONTROL (side panel) - Track code changes EXTENSIONS (side panel) - Easily Install and Manage Extensions for a fully integrated experience (however, with all of the built in features, Extensions are not really needed) Additional Pros: Fully integrated with other applications. Opens and Saves SSMS Files (.sql, .ssmssln, and .ssmssqlproj) in their native format. Retains Recovery Files in this location \\AppData\Roaming\azuredatastudio\Backups Easy to Navigate UI Open Source - Free to use and installed alongside Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio (this makes it accessible for organization software restrictions) VS Code requires licenses and is not accessible within organizations that have software restrictions

Cons

  • I don't like that it's being retired in February 2026. I highly recommend searching for forums that are requesting Microsoft to keep ADS if you use it and are worried about losing all of your work.
