About

Anki is a program which makes remembering things easy. Because it's a lot more efficient than traditional study methods, you can either greatly decrease your time spent studying, or greatly increase the amount you learn. Anyone who needs to remember things in their daily life can benefit from Anki. Since it is content-agnostic and supports images, audio, videos and scientific markup (via LaTeX), the possibilities are endless. Use the free AnkiWeb synchronization service to keep your cards in sync across multiple devices. From card layout to review timing, Anki has a wealth of options for you to customize. Embed audio clips, images, videos and scientific markup on your cards, with precise control over how it's shown. Because the code and storage format is open, your important data is safe.

Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • I use Anki daily on my PC, precisely because it is free and open source, so I can add any addon. It is highly customizable and efficient, it does exactly what I need.
  • Anki is highly customizable, has a lot of cool add-ons and a dedicated open-source community working on even more features.
  • It is flexible enough to help me learn all kinds of material. Text, images, audio, video, equations. It is always being improved, for free. Can use it on web, mobile, or laptop/desktop, and sync between all. It has a large community of users, lots of YouTube videos to teach me how to best use it. Lots of addons exist, and I can count on the large community to keep making more addons if I have needs in the future.

Cons

  • For me, Anki is perfect just the way it is, it has no flaws. It's the best flashcard app out there. I can't live without it anymore, I love Anki.
  • At first, it is a little confusing to understand how to use Anki because it has so many features. The learning curve is great, though, and by now I have found out how to do a lot of cool things in Anki.
  • It's difficult to figure out how to use it at first. It's important to find help to get started, at YouTube, or read the manual at docs.ankiweb.net, or get help from the community on Reddit.
