WinDirStat (Windows Directory Statistics) is a disk usage statistics viewer and cleanup tool for Windows. On start up, WinDirStat reads the whole directory tree once and then presents it in three useful views:
- The directory list, which resembles the tree view of the Windows Explorer but is sorted by file/subtree size,
- The treemap, which shows the whole contents of the directory tree straight away,
- The extension list, which serves as a legend and shows statistics about the file types.
Visit the WinDirStat blog for more up-to-date information about the program.
Note: If you are looking for an alternative to WinDirStat for Linux, then you are looking for KDirStat (apt-get install kdirstat on Debian-derivatives), and the alternative to WinDirStat for MacOS X is Disk Inventory X or GrandPerspective.

I have used this program that came with my Boot Magazine on a CD back in the 90's. Have used it off and on ever since. If this is the same program I used back then.. as it has the same name.. great job and thank you very much. What a great tool to see what data is on a drive. What a great tool to help make sure you get all data before wiping a customers drive. Fantastic tool to see what is taking up your hard drives space. I would give it 10 stars if I could. For beginners to computers, this will help you visualize what is on a hard drive and what all that data looks like.
Awesome tool! Helps you find files hard to locate, and view your used space graphically. I'd add a feature to hide subfolders from the graph, because maybe they're distracting and have nothing to do with the reason why you're using the app.
One of the best Directory Explorer Software. Easy to find bigger files and move or remove them. Fastest way to save your Harddisk or SSD Space.
It definitely does the job but there are some newer alternatives such as Folder Size Explorer - www.folder-size-explorer.com
