Niche Analyst (NicheA) was developed based on the BAM framework which allows users to create virtual spaces and virtual species, and to analyze ecological niches in both multivariate environmental and geographic spaces, linking views of the niche in the two spaces. The unique functionality in NicheA, not available in other software programs, is estimating Grinnellian niches of species based on environmental variables and occurrence records, but with a clear focus on fundamental ecological niches. NicheA can display ecological niches; calculate their shape, density, location, and other attributes; and quantify similarity among multiple niches.

    Nelder Plot Designer

    Nelder Plot Designer

A Computer-aided Tool for Nelder Plot Design

Nelder plot (Nelder 1962) is an experimental design for testing a multiple tree spacings in a single plot. The shape of plot is circular with some number of concentric wheels or arcs radiating outward and the spokes connecting the center. The intersections of spokes and arcs are the tree positions. The tree position on different wheels represent a different the tree spacing distance or tree density. This design eliminates the need for separate experimental plots for each tree density. The difficulties with Nelder plot design is their uncommon layout and complex parameterization (Parrott et al. 2012). This computer-aided tool for designing the Nelder plot can be very useful for the practical implementation of this experimental design.\r\n\r\nReferences\r\nNelder JA (1962) New kinds of systematic designs for spacing experiments. Woodland Potential Calculator

    Woodland Potential Calculator

Woodland potential calculator GIS presentation application

The Forestry Commission and Natural England commissioned a bespoke data collection and presentation tool for calculating the potential for increasing the extent of tree cover across the north west of England. The data was divided into sub-regions by landscape type using Natural England's Character Area classifications. The potential within each of these Character Areas was then estimated by working groups of local experts who were capable of making reasoned assessments of both the opportunities and constraints to woodland creation. Subsequently, this project was considerably extended and adopted as a national system. It is currently being used to compile the National Woodland Potential dataset for the whole of England.

    AGNES Cluster identification

R script to run several clustering algorithms using morphometric data

The R script was written to perform and compare several versions of cluster algorithms as described in: Seifert, Ritz & Csősz (2013) published in Myrmecological News. The aim is to identify (cryptic) taxa based on numeric data on morphology. The first step is a Linear Discriminant Analysis (LDA) based on subunits (ant nests) independent of any taxon information. Following analysis are Non-Metric Multidimensional Scaling (NMDS) and k-Means clustering. The NMDS scores are also summarized using K-Means. For comparison, k-Means is also run on the nest means (without preceeding LDA). Cluster assignment is summarized in an output file for all three methods.

    Binary2Data

Export data from "binary" to "data" .csv from TMS compatible loggers

A script to export / convert data from a "binary" .csv to a "data" .csv file for TOMST TMS model 91, 92 and 94 compatible loggers. If some data has been not correctly exported using the TOMST Lolly software, this script will be able to recover all the data saved in the "binary" .csv file and save it as a "data" .csv file. Simply select all the "binary" files you want to export the information from and the data will be exported to corresponding "data" .csv files. Tested on a handful "binary" .csv files from 91, 92 and 94-type TMS loggers.
