Video DownloadHelper CoApp is a free, open-source companion application developed to extend the capabilities of the Video DownloadHelper browser extension. It provides operating system functions that browser extensions cannot access directly. The application enables supported browsers to save downloaded media files through a native file-writing interface. It also includes FFmpeg functionality for video conversion and processing. Users can launch downloaded media through their operating system's default video player. Communication between the browser extension and companion application uses the native messaging protocol. The software was distributed for Windows, macOS, and Linux. Development ended in December 2025 because Video DownloadHelper version 10 no longer requires a separate companion application.
