Ubuntu Unity Flashback is a high-performance, productivity-focused Ubuntu desktop environment that restores the original Unity workflow — launcher, HUD, and global menu — implemented on top of GNOME Flashback with Compiz. By avoiding heavyweight compositing shells and runtime-dependent extensions, it delivers a deterministic, low-latency desktop with consistent behavior and reduced failure points.

The system is engineered for real-world daily workloads and long-term stability. It ships with an upstream XanMod T2 kernel, tuned for modern x86-64 microarchitectures with advanced scheduler optimizations, low-latency preemption, and improved I/O responsiveness. Firmware remains fully upstream and unmodified, while the EFI boot chain has been completely regenerated and extensively validated, ensuring clean UEFI compliance, reliable boot behavior, and excellent compatibility across both PCs and Macs.
