V 5.7 (05/11/2024):
  • Repairs two annoying issues with inline hilighting: a seemingly random lack of marking on the final line of CERTAIN hunks; and no hilight whatsoever when toggling visibility from OFF to ON, until the text windows are scrolled.
  • Additionally, when Annotating a bookmark, the Prompt Box requesting the annotation mistakenly was mis-identifying WHICH hunk it requested the info for, despite actually updating the CORRECT hunk identifier.
  • Allows platform-defined "special" filenames that IMPLY an EMPTY file as valid input parameters despite them not physically existing. This is a concession to some SCM environments that automatically PROVIDE such names when interfacing into TkDiff; it will simply result in a single Diff hunk of ALL add or delete.
  • Certain visual defaults (generally in MacOS) are no longer provided when using a version of TK at or after V8.6, as the builtin values are perfectly acceptable and provide for a more integrated overall appearance.

This is clearly a maintenance release and represents various items or recognitions that have collected over several months of little complaint. None of these issues was deemed critical to the useful operation at that time, but taken as a SET, now appear to have gained a "critical mass" worthy of update, particularly the most recent issue of the loss of highlighting on an ALMOST random single last-line of some Diff hunks.

The provided zipfile will unzip to its own subdirectory named "tkdiff-5-7" containing a README.txt file (having installation instructions), a Changelog file to highlight current (and past) modifications, the actual tkdiff Tcl script, and the (required) copy of the GNU License. We hope you find this new version both useful and reliable. Feel free to leave reviews, trouble tickets, new ideas; whatever you would like.
