V 5.2.1 (03/27/2021):
  • Now provides an alternate means of displaying the list of file
    • pairs (in a free standing dialog) when the number of files exceeds
    • a user adjustable (1-25) maximum for using a simple menu choice.
  • Repaired what filenames are returned by a 'recursive' Diff search
    • when the "-q" option is removed. Will now suppress binary files as
    • originally intended (fault was caused by Tcl itself - not TkDiff).
  • Fixed initial display of toolbar buttons at startup. Was displaying
    • BOTH text and icon versions (overlaid) until after a preference
    • "Apply" had occurred.

This is a relatively minor "fixup" release, aimed at 3 usability concerns instead of more dire crash situations. Once it was realized that Diff might easily return a large number of file pairs, thereby over- whelming the conventional menulist display, it became necessary to provide a sturdier list presentation format. The menu form remains available, but now has an adjustable (and preference settable) maximum limit. For those who might simply prefer the separate dialog approach, the threshold can be adjusted to always choose that form.

It was also discovered that Tcl itself was somehow preventing otherwise legal coding from executing correctly, forcing us to recode functionality that had been intended to support the LACK of the "-q" Diff option when using the recently added "recursive" Diff search capability. An alternative approach was found and now functions properly.

Lastly, a small oversight was responsible for mis-displaying the toolbar buttons at startup (introduced in the prior release). While it was resolvable by simply re-applying the current user preferences, it too is now repaired.

We apologize for the inconvenience of the short-cycle release, but it is believed to have been the best course of action. As always, the builtin help facility has been updated to reflect, where necessary, any changes in settings or feature operations in addition to the always ongoing editting for improved clarity throughout. If its been a while since your last read, take a few minutes to see if there might not be something described that could help your usage. Its not a book, but its a LOT more than just a manpage.

The provided zipfile will unzip to its own subdirectory named "tkdiff-5-2-1" containing a README.txt file (having installation instructions), a Changelog file to highlight current (and past) modifications, the actual tkdiff Tcl script, and the (required) copy of the GNU License. We hope you find this new version both useful and reliable. Feel free to leave reviews, trouble tickets, new ideas; whatever you would like.
