Tern is a free, open-source Markdown editor for Windows. Write in Source, Split or Reading mode, organize local notes in workspaces, and navigate with an outline, backlinks and full-text search.
Preview tables, task lists, code, images, supported math and Mermaid diagrams. Export to PDF, self-contained HTML or plain text. Document recovery, local saved-text history, and encoding and line-ending preservation help protect your work.
Optional AI connections and manual MCP tools use services you configure. Remote images and network features can contact external services; see the documentation for privacy details.
The Windows x64 ZIP includes its .NET runtime. Extract the complete archive and run Tern.exe. Tern is MIT-licensed; bundled dependencies retain their own licenses.
The current release is unsigned, so Windows may show an Unknown publisher or SmartScreen warning.
