Simple Backup can be used to backup and compress, files and directories, to a destination directory.

Usage: simplebackup SOURCE1 SOURCE2... SOURCEn DESTINATION_DIRECTORY

It creates a new directory with a date stamp in its name.

Simple Backup works with Linux, macOS, and FreeBSD.

To restore data from a Simple Backup archive, one can use tar -xf


Note: Simple Backup needs zstd (Zstandard) to be installed, usually with the package manager of your distribution.
