Sane Break is a free, open-source desktop break reminder designed to encourage healthier computer usage without abruptly interrupting work. It uses a two-phase notification system that begins with a small, unobtrusive reminder. Users can finish their current activity before transitioning into a full-screen break. The application detects when computer activity stops and uses that moment to begin the break automatically. If a reminder is ignored for too long, it can transition to the full-screen phase after a configurable interval. Its interface avoids prominent skip and postpone buttons to discourage habitual dismissal. Built with Qt6, Sane Break supports Windows, macOS, and Linux, including compatible X11 and Wayland environments.
