Q4OS is a fast and friendly, desktop oriented operating system based on Debian Linux. It deploys Plasma, optionally Trinity, as desktop environment on top of Debian Linux rock stable base.
The goal is to provide long-term supported system with a special emphasis on security. This is exactly what Debian base guarantees. We prefer the Debian development model to keep the core system as immutable as possible. It results in a reliable and stable system that you can definitely rely on.
Thanks to unique Q4OS tools a user can rather easily achieve setup of a fitted system eliminating superfluous packages and libraries. Therefore Q4OS performs faster and more efficient, doesn't exploit memory and computing resources with useless tasks and processes.
Another exclusive Q4OS feature is an optimized support for setting up Trinity desktop environment alongside the default Plasma desktop. Installed side by side, carefully separated, both ready to run as needed. Just select one at login.

Linux. Excellent lightweight Linux distribution Q4OS pleasantly surprised me with its speed, stability, and ease of use. Even on older hardware, the system runs smoothly and remains responsive. The Trinity Desktop Environment provides a classic and familiar interface that is comfortable for both beginners and experienced users. Installation was straightforward, and the system comes with a good balance of simplicity and functionality. Resource consumption is remarkably low, making Q4OS an excellent choice for reviving older PCs or creating a fast, efficient workstation. I also appreciate the attention to stability and long-term support. Unlike many modern distributions that constantly change their interface, Q4OS focuses on reliability and user comfort. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a lightweight, fast, and dependable Linux distribution.

Excellent choice for old hardware and beyond Q4OS is truly a remarkable distribution that pleasantly surprised me with its thoughtfulness and performance. Its main advantage is incredible lightness — the system runs smoothly even on very old computers, with minimum requirements of just 256 MB RAM for the Trinity version. At its core lies the rock-solid Debian, which guarantees reliability and compatibility with a vast number of applications.

I installed Q4OS on several portable computers since 2021. Each time it was ok. This time, I tried to install it on an ASUS F8VE bought in 2010 ! And all was ok !!! So I can use this relatively "old" computer for classical tasks such as email (thunderbird last version!) web (firefox last version) and usual microsoft like work with LibreOffice! MANY THANKS TO THE Q4OS team !!! Patrice, from France (2025-11-17)

After getting a new laptop, of all the distro's I've tried, Q4OS is the only distro that works out of the box without too many hick-ups. It's a relatively fast distro, easy install, based on the stabel Debian bookworm repo's . 2 flavours (plasma & trinity) but how easy they make it to install another desktop! I've installed XFCE fast and without any problems. And of course, the S4 Snapshot software.... How easy to make a live usb of your personal install and transfer it to other computer or let others explore this great distro. Now, if only it was rolling.... Then I would put an extra star here. ;-)
