###################################################### PEARL DESKTOP (PDE) 7.1 64 bit RELEASED 11/18/18 This release is for the most part just updated. If you are already running7.0 no need to download. PEARL DESKTOP (PDE) 7.1 32 bit RELEASED 11/18/18 This is the first version in 32 bit for Pearl version 7. This was an overlook on my part why it didn't get uploaded. (will be up by end of day.) KODI is installed on both 32 and 64 bit releases. ######################################################## PEARL DESKTOP (PDE) 7.0 64 bit RELEASED 05/27/2018 Built on the Ubuntu 18.04 LTR base. The Pearl Desktop Environment is made from a mix of Compiz/LXDE/XFCE4. Default session is PearlDE-FX which logs you into the compiz with effects session. ######################################################## ######################################################### VERY SIMPLE INSTALL PROCESS SIMPLY FROM DESKTOP RIGHT CLIGHT THEN OPEN "INSTALL PearlDesktop" ######################################################## Losts of changes since the 1.2 release to list all. Most importantly Software Managers, Updating System, Bottom Dock, Default Panels, GTK3 themes. PearlDE-FX defaults to a Metalic Snow Leopard OS X styled GTK theme. A more modern Icon Theme. We have more available themes and software available on our repository which updates with ubuntu's updates to kernel, and other security updates. Pearl Update now can run automatically or you can manage your updates as well. MDM Display Manager is default however LightDM is pre- installed as well. See the new PearlDE-Control Center to control your NEW Pearl OS. ######################################################## ######################################################### TO INSTALL FROM TOP MENU GO TO SYSTEM TOOLS THEN AND CHOOSE "INSTALL RELEASE" ######################################################## PEARL DESKTOP 1.2 32 bit RELEASED 03/07/15 PEARL DESKTOP 1.2 64 BIT VERSION JUST RELEASED 03/04/15 ######################################################## VERSION 1.1 IS A BETA RELEASE PLEASE DOWNLOAD 1.2 ################ PEARL DESKTOP README ################## LOGIN Info To logon to live system just hit enter at logon screen. No password needed to preview live system or to install the system. Unlike our other Pearl releases the desktop does not have the installer icon. Simply left click on the Pearl icon on the bottom dock and type install, then click icon. You may also use top menu and under system tools you will also see "Install RELEASE". Please be aware that the Pearl Desktop does take anywhere from a little to alot longer than our other releases to load due to the amount of included software with our fully pre-configured dual session atmossphere. Once system has loaded up for either a Live session or the installation environment it becomes much much quicker. DOCKY (Bottom Dock) HELP If you left click on pearl logo on bottom dock the slingscold launcher (with catagories) will launch. To change the settings on docky you simply right click on the Pearl Icon on the Docky Dock. Pearl Desktop does not auto stock up the docky dockbar upon install. To pin an application to the dock open an app by choosing it from the top menu or once again left clicking the pearl icon on bottom which opens slingscold, the launcher which defaults as an app search. Slingscold is an active search, once opened, just type program you are looking for. Once app is opened it docks to the bottom dock. Right click the icon and choose first option "pin to dock". Once an app is pinned to bottom dock it will likely be the default app laucher for your most used software. To open a new window from an app on docky once again see options on the right click. Docky is where apps minimize to. if you are logged onto a Pearl-Compiz Session then the Magic Lamp effect will be on. If using the default Pearl session, xfwm4, then a fade out will occur on minimize. More About The Two Sessions available at Login Pearl: the Pearl session is default. It uses the xfwm4 as window manager. There are 3 pearl osx flavored themes installed. One is the standard light theme one is our new osx styled dark theme and a beta version of our v2 theme. If the default look is not what your looking for their are many other option preinstalled to choose from even windows xp, 7 and 8 themes. Do note however the oxygen themes may be a bit shaky. USE CUSTOM LOOK AND FEEL and Pearl Control Center under Preferences to adjust most of your appearce preferences. Pearl-Compiz: These settings are controlled by a few different interfaces. First, same as Pearl without compiz you will use CUSTOM LOOK AND FEEL under preferences however you will need to use "dconf editor" especially when complete theme styles change. I strongly suggest to take note of what and WHERE you edit the dconf editor. The section which will be your main concern when chaging themes with compiz is under /org/gnome/desktop/wm/preferences. Using CompizConfig-Settings-Manager With the defaults we set you should not have any problems at all. Our defaults include Wobbly Windows, Magic Lamp (minimize genie'ish effect), Custom Commands, which by default we only entered one and that is an edge binder to the bottom right of your screen and we have it it auto load slingscold. Try It :-), Super key plus s shows all desktops to screen plus much more. PLEASE BE AWARE THAT CHANGING SETTINGS ON THE COMPIZCONFIG-SETTINGS-MANAGER is NOT for the newbie Linux user. You can easily make system unuseable by playing around. I recommand "Google"! just say what your looking for the answe will be there. We made 2 screenshots of the default choices that were set upon install and they are located in your Documents directory. In case you get lost in configland lol... You will notice on one of those pics of the defaults "DBUS" is selected, this was overlooked until after we uploaded. THE DEFAULT DOES NOT USE DBUS. Do not use unless you know what you are doing. We also have a backup file of the default settings located at /home/USER/.ccsm-pearl-defaults.profile You must unhide hidden files by cntrl h. You can restore by opening ccsm from preferences on main menu on left side choose preferences and you will see the import button on top right. QUICK NOTES Their will be much more helping info on the Pearl Desktop within the next week or so. The Pearl Desktop has been released as a stable release however there are bound to be some areas that were overlooked and we would luv your help in fixing any matters that you may see so we can promply fix them.
