Orfeo is a free, open-source desktop application for learning piano through MIDI files. It combines visual MIDI playback, an interactive piano keyboard, musical analysis, practice tools, and a comprehensive MIDI editor in one application. It is designed to bridge the gap between a conventional MIDI player, a piano-learning application and a MIDI editor.
The project is built around a simple idea: every MIDI file can be a piano lesson.
Unlike many visual piano-learning applications, Orfeo also provides tools to work with the MIDI files themselves. Users can correct notes, adjust timing, rearrange tracks, assign left- and right-hand parts, change instruments and save modified arrangements without overwriting the originals.
Instead of relying on proprietary song catalogs, subscriptions or restrictive learning platforms, Orfeo allows musicians and piano learners to use their own music collection, study individual passages and practice at their own pace.
