OpenWebStart is a free, open-source Java Web Start implementation designed to launch and manage Java applications distributed through JNLP files. It provides an alternative to Oracle's discontinued Java Web Start technology, which was removed from Oracle JDK distributions beginning with Java 11. Based on the IcedTea-Web project, it enables organizations to continue running existing Java Web Start applications. The software includes a Java runtime manager that can download and maintain compatible Java installations from supported distributions. It also provides application caching, update management, and configurable security settings for deployed applications. Available for Windows, macOS, and Linux, OpenWebStart supports enterprise environments that rely on remotely distributed Java desktop software.
