This is a great alternative to Microsoft Office. I have been using it for years and do all of my school work for uni with it.
It is free, easy to use, clean, and efficient.
The ability to save with Writer as .doc files is very handy for sharing documents. I don't think I will be switching to any other product, even if I were to receive MS Office for free.

was a fan of oo3.1/vista where it was stable then i upgraded to oo4 and the program crashes. no help from openoffice community. can't return to 3.1 because it is beyond the legacy window. removing the product altogether and switching to kingsoft, i don't have time to troubleshoot this.

Merci de m'aiderReply from Apache OpenOffice

Amazing job on this Office productivity software. I have not found anything that I couldn't do before. Everyone I show this program to also agrees with me.

My school couldn't give us all MS office, so this software carried me through quarantine.

I move from MicrosofOffice to Apache OpenOffice since lots of my friends suggested it. The software is great, the features are confuse at first but after 1 hours, i can basiclly understand most of them, they're awsome. The design, of cause, it feel is a bit "old style," i guess. I suggest some simple, black-white (or maybe 3 color combination) , clean icons theme for some users like me, they won't cause too much distractive form their color and shapes designs. The simple designs won't let them 'pop up' too much and take all the attention and concentration from the writter.Reply from Apache OpenOffice

Sometimes a bit buggy, but I don't see why you would pay for Microsoft Office. I'm glad this software exists.

Older computer died and lost everything. Was using a different "processor" so had to find another one. I remembered the Apache name so downloaded to use and as an old administrator (Navy), felt right at home. A Big thanks for something I can use.

Apache OpenOffice is a generous software. Things you can do on other documents platform can be done as well on this software. I have not contacted their support so I cant place rate based on support under customer service. In addition to that, there are some features on this software that will guide users.

Difficult learning curve when transferring from Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) to OpenOffice, but persistence pays off. It has taken a few months for this 80 year-old to make the conversion. Now feeling comfortable.

AOO 4.1.9 was released on February 7, 2021 and 4.1.10-RC1 is on the way. Apache OpenOffice is still actively developed – cf. the mailing list for developers: www.mail-archive.com/dev@openoffice.apache.org/ – they just opened a repository for 4.2.0-dev3. As long as LibreOffice won't fix its font kerning in page view on Linux and macOS, I will stick to Apache OpenOffice. On Linux, I particularly like that AOO doesn't use Qt or Gtk but its own toolkit – this makes AOO less quirky than LO.

I have been able to find answers when I have problems. One problem for me is that I can't add movies or audio files to impress.

Love it very easy

Most of us use word processing and spreadsheet programs to create charts, databases, letters, resumes, mail merge for labels or envelopes, and maybe an occasional special project with a table insert. There's no need to pay for Microsoft products when you can do it all with the same - or easier - workflow on the free open source software, Open Office. If you've used Word or Excel in the past, you'll pick it up right away, since functions are similar. Most open source softwares require the user to compromise with features or user friendliness. This is not the case with Open Office. Highly recommended. I can't find a single bad thing to say (or a single reason to pay for a word processing or database software.)

Just started using a new-ish iMac 2019. The included "Pages" software lacks a "Save As..." function (which I have complained about to Apple.). So I KNEW I needed to install Apache Open Office on this new iMac, same as I've been using AOO on a much older 2009 iMac. Thanks to all the volunteers who have made this a go-to software product. I just wish it were a bit more stable: I have to regularly restore files, after doing nothing more intimidating than minimize an Open Office window. Sigh.

Thanks to Apache OpenOffice I'm now able to say 'f*** off Bill Gates!!' He can no longer exploit me and it feels great

Though there are bugs and long time users can surely name a few, this project is a bright example of what open source can bring to the table.

Works great and is free.
