Nelson is a free, open-source numerical computing language and development environment designed for scientific and engineering applications. Inspired by MATLAB and GNU Octave, it provides more than 1,200 built-in functions for mathematical computation and data analysis. The software supports complex numbers, multidimensional arrays, sparse matrices, tables, and dictionaries. Users can create two-dimensional and three-dimensional visualizations and develop custom graphical interfaces. Its parallel computing capabilities use OpenMP, SIMD, and MPI to improve processing performance. Nelson also integrates with Python, Julia, C, and Fortran code. Additional tools include an interactive debugger, profiler, package manager, and embedded code editor, making it suitable for research and numerical simulation.
