v1.5.4

mrv2 and vmrv2 are open source professional players and review tools for VFX, animation and computer graphics for Windows, Linux and macOS. You can choose to compile from source or get binaries.

If you are unsure what binary to choose, go to:

https://mrv2.sourceforge.io/downloads/mrv2-download-page.html

mrv2 ships now in two compiled versions:

  • mrv2 with OpenGL backend (free and donationware)
  • vmrv2 with Vulkan backend (free and donationware)

It also ships for many more architectures, so be careful to download the correct one. It has NOT been tested on Windows aarch64 nor Linux aarch64 (beta testers wanted).

Prices for binaries

For unlocking features, once mrv2 loads, you should go to:

   Help->Unlock Features.

Donationware prices unlocking features are paid through PayPal:

I use the email information to contact you privately. I don't sell your information, as I don't have access to it, except for your email, which I use to contact you if you run into issues.

  • Solo node-locked license for one year.
  • Standard node-locked standard license for one year.
  • Edit node-locked license with annotations and editing tools for one year.
  • Pro node-locked license for one year.
  • Pro+ node-locked license to own (allows changing machine).

License works for both mrv2 and vmrv2 (you can have both installed). You need to have an internet connection for the license system.

The donationware version when running without a donation, does not have:

- Annotations (available from Solo and later)
- Python (available in Standard and later)
- Editing (available in Edit and later)
- Voice and Link Annotations (available in Pro)

They do have, however:

- Tone-mapping (OpenGL) and HDR (Vulkan)
- OpenEXR layer switching
- Saving Images and Movies with Audio

ChangeLog

  • v1.5.3 release was somewhat problematic for HDR due to the new nits code on Windows and Linux.
  • The first release of v1.5.4 had a bad formula in its math. Should be fixed now.
  • Fixed some HDR clipping issues when displaying HDR content on an SDR monitor.
  • Same fix added to hdr utility.
  • Improved emoji multipoint support and cleaned up code.
  • Fixed deleting and moving among Emoji flags.
  • Fixed a bug where Presentation mode did not cover the whole screen completely, leaving a one pixel gap to the right of the screen on Windows.
  • Further improved the look of the Vulkan Text Widget.
  • Added translations to hdr utility and license_helper.
  • Fixed parsing EDID on Linux which could mis-detect HDR monitor.
  • Fixed detecting HDR on Linux under Wayland correctly, even on multiple monitor setups.
  • Fixed device name on Windows and Linux which could not map the order in FLTK.
  • Added support for the .heif and .heic movie / picture formats.
  • Fixed monitor device look up on KDE Plasma not finding the right connector (it is different than GNOME).
  • Fixed HDR10+ metadata not getting passed from FFmpeg correctly on each frame.
  • Fixed HDR EOTF and primaries not getting passed from FFmpeg correctly on each frame.
  • Fixed levelsFunc in display shader on both backends.
  • Fixed validation error on compute flag on Vulkan backend.
  • Fixed validation error on program exit when in Presentation mode.
  • Made push constants size smaller on Vulkan backed (minor speed improvent).
  • Moved Render/HDR/HDR Data, Render/HDR/Tonemap and Render/HDR/Gamut Mapping earlier in the menu, as they will now get used more often.
  • Improved performance of Vulkan backend by compressing the push constants. If they don't fit in your graphics card constant limits, they are split into a an UBO. My RTX 3080 has only 256 bytes of push_constants which libplacebo now eats.
  • Fixed playback when switching clips always playing them even if they had been stopped.
  • Upgraded FLTK to v1.6.1.
  • Upgraded OpenJPH to v0.26.0.
