mrv2 and vmrv2 are open source professional players and review tools for VFX, animation and computer graphics for Windows, Linux and macOS. You can choose to compile from source or get binaries.

mrv2 ships now in two compiled versions:
- mrv2 with OpenGL backend (free and donationware)
- vmrv2 with Vulkan backend (free and donationware)
It also ships for many more architectures, so be careful to download the correct one. It has NOT been tested on Windows aarch64 nor Linux aarch64 (beta testers wanted).
Unlocking Features
For unlocking features, once mrv2 loads, you should go to:

Donationware prices of binary licenses through PayPal:
License works for both mrv2 and vmrv2 (you can have both installed). You need to have an internet connection for the license system.
The donationware version when running without a donation, does not have:
- Annotations (available from Solo and later)
- Python (available in Standard and later)
- Editing (available in Edit and later)
- Voice and Link Annotations (available in Pro)
They do have, however:
- Tone-mapping (OpenGL) and HDR (Vulkan)
- OpenEXR layer switching
- Saving Images and Movies with Audio
Prices might change (go up or down) depending on competition and new features.

- First, the good news: the powers that be allowed me to buy an HDR monitor, so I am now squashing bugs right and left.

- Fixed audio playback of ALab .otio trailer.
- Fixed colors of playing SDR videos on Windows when HDR was enabled.
- Added a convenient option, mainly for HDR, in: Preferences->OCIO->No OCIO on Videos or SDR/RGB data to turn off OCIO automatically, mainly when playing videos or showing sRGB images. Most likely you will want this option on all the time.
- On Vulkan on Linux, when swapchain is VK_COLOR_SPACE_SRGB_NONLINEAR_KHR, try to use the best format like VK_FORMAT_A2R10G10B10_UNORM_PACK32 if possible.
- On Vulkan we now extract the monitor's primaries from EDID on Linux and with DXGI on Windows and with the corresponding functions on macOS.
- Fixed a Vulkan HDR cyan color clamping and bad matrix calculation inherited from tlRender.
- On Vulkan, added debanding of main image to smooth out gradients. You control it with "Render->Debanding" and Preferences->Render Debanding to make it permanent. There's None, Low, Medium and High settings.
- Made HUD display scale up to make it more readable when the viewport resolution is too big.
- Implemented "Playback/Go to/Next 10 Seconds" and "Playback/Go to/Previous 10 Seconds". The default shortcut hotkeys are CTRL+Left Arrow and CTRL+Right Arrow.
- Fixed OS's screen scaling not being taken into account in the hdr utility.
- Fixed a hanging on the progress indicator on Vulkan when loading a 4K video from the command-line on Linux.
- Changed font in the timeline to make it a little bit more readable.
- Fixed a sporadic Wayland buffer size crash on the Vulkan backend.
- Improved performance of resizing the Window on Vulkan.
- Added HUD font size to Preferences->User Interface->View Window.
- Bug fixed switching from one monitor with HDR to one without.
- Bug fixed menus showing up in the wrong place when you had two monitors of different resolutions (like one 4K and another FullHD).
- A warning about Performance on Linux: currently fractional scaling (like 150%) of large monitors makes both players slower. It is recommended you stick to 100% or 200% percentages.
