LibrePods is an open-source project that brings many AirPods features normally limited to Apple devices onto Android and Linux. It reimplements Apple’s proprietary accessory protocols to expose battery information, listening modes, ear detection, conversational awareness, and device controls. Supported Android configurations can also use head gestures, accessibility options, and selected hearing features. Some advanced functions require root access or VendorID spoofing, depending on the device and OS version. Linux support covers core controls, while newer functionality remains under active development. The project also experiments with multipoint connectivity and higher-quality microphone workflows while documenting platform limitations clearly.
