Hidamari Prism v1.0.1 — the sunny spot for your Linux desktop. A friendly, power-efficient fork of Hidamari, written in Python with the help of AI. Plays videos, live streams, animated webpages, or static images as your wallpaper while sipping CPU and power.
Runs on almost any Linux distro as a Flatpak. X11 is fully supported on every desktop, incl. pause/mute when maximized. GNOME Wayland fully supported via an opt-in GNOME Shell extension. On KDE/Sway/other Wayland it plays in a plain window; static-image wallpapers are GNOME-only.
Features
- Static image wallpapers — the original could only freeze a video frame; the fork plays any image file as wallpaper, with blur (GNOME)
- Multiple named playlists — the original had one queue; the fork has named playlists that persist
- Add an entire folder at once to a playlist
- Ordered playback — with shuffle off, playlists play in sequence and loop perfectly
- Pause/mute on maximize under GNOME Wayland — via the bundled opt-in GNOME Shell extension; the original's maximize-pause was X11-only
- Hardware-decode watchdog — auto-falls-back to CPU decoding if the GPU decoder glitches
- Clean, seam-free looping via VLC's input-repeat
- Per-monitor decoders + hot-plug handling — refinement of the original's basic multi-monitor
